Secondary School Education Programs


The Sierrans plan to have educational programs and work with teachers on the secondary school level to educate students about the resource industires, the products produced by the resource industries, the history of the resoruce industries in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the benefits of the resource industries for society, and other applicable subjects that fit the educational criteria of each particular school and classroom.  Teachers should contact us if they are interested in educating their students about the resource industries.  Please help use fund these programs to educate both teachers and kids about the resource industries

Public School Education Programs


The Sierrans for Responsible Resource Development (the "Sierrans") plan to have educational programs and work with teachers on both the primary school level to educate students about the resource industires, the products produced by the resource industries, the history of the resoruce industries in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the benefits of the resource industries for society, and other applicable subjects that fit the educational criteria of each particular school and classroom.  Teachers should contact us if they are interested in educating their students about the resource industries.  Please help use fund these programs to educate both teachers and kids about the resource industries

Community Education Programs
 
The Sierrans plan to have educational programs and do presentations and talks with various community groups that are interested in the resource industires or their history in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  Please contact us if you are interested in having someone from our group do a presentation for your community group or organization. Please help us fund these programs to educate our community about the ressource industries.

Sierrans Scholarship Program

The Sierrans for Responsible Resource Development (the “Sierrans”) is a non-profit social welfare organization formed to educate residents, businesses, government agencies, and the community about the benefits of responsible and sustainable resource industries in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  The Sierrans offer two annual one-time scholarships to Nevada County Joint Union High School District students who are entering post-secondary education for the first-year and are planning careers in resource related industries (assuming funds are available).

Resource industries include:

  1. Mining

  2. Forestry

  3. Agriculture

  4. Oil and Gas

  5. Recreation

One scholarship each will be awarded to a male and female student each year.  The District Scholarship Committee selects the students based on the following criteria:

  1. One scholarship will be awarded to a male and female student each year;

  2. Recipients must attend a two or four year accredited college, university, or vocational institution (trade school);

  3. Recipients must be pursuing a resource industry career (trades are acceptable);

  4. Recipients must have a minimum GPA of 3.0;

  5. Application will be made through the District Scholarship Application Form;

  6. The District Scholarship Committee will select the students to receive the scholarship.

  7. Upon selection, students will be required to attend one of Sierrans’ membership meetings and discuss their proposed career goals and objectives.

  8. Checks will be sent by the Sierrans to the Nevada Joint Union High School District for distribution to the students (estimated April each year).

  9. Proof of enrollment will be required.
