Other Associated Industries

There are many other industries associated with the natural resource industries. These are because the natural resource industries use their products in a major way or because those industries consume resource industry projects in a major way.  Associated industries include, but are not limited to:

  • Hydro-power (provides power for operations, uses products for dam construction and transmission)

  • Geothermal power (provides power for operations, uses products for manufacture of equipment and transmission)

  • Solar power (uses products for manufacture of equipment and transmission)

  • Wind power (uses products for manufacture of equipment and transmission)

  • Industrial Construction (uses products and constructs facilities)

  • Transportation, including railways, airplanes, trucks, and ships (uses products for manufacture of equipment, for fuel, and for transporting products)

  • Manufacturing (uses products for manufacture of equipment, fuel for shipping products to market)

For example, there is geothermal power production in the Sierra Nevada Mountains.  The Mammoth Geothermal Plant produces 28 MW of power. Without drilling technology developed in mining and the oil and gas industries, geothermal power would not likely exist today.  Similarly, gold and other metals as well as plastics from the oil and gas industry are used in solar and wind power farms.
